Howdy, readers of The Little Owl! I'm Erin, and I write (and photograph, and craft, et al) over at Predictions for the Past. I started Predictions this summer as a way to keep my family and friends back home up to date on my adventures living in a small town. I'm a city girl at heart and a creative soul no matter where I live, so keeping crafty was really important to my lifestyle and my blog helps to keep me active, and who doesn't like to share a good thing now and again? I like to write about crafts/sewing, vegetarian cooking (but let's be honest, mostly sweet stuff and breakfast foods in my weekly Super Brunch Sundays feature), my adventures in personal style and my photography. It's so cool to have this documentation of my growth to look back on and really see how far I've come!

Oh boy, I am definitely one of those people who likes to do everything, so this is kind of tough! I enjoy painting, model building (I'm a set and costume designer by day [and all hours of the night sometimes!]), sewing and leather working, playing video games on my N64, thrift (or really any) shopping, photography and cooking. Sometimes in bizarre combinations of the above. I would really do a little bit of everything if I could, and I see my career in the arts as a vehicle to acquire as many skills and hobbies as I can! I love learning something new.

My blog really is a life and style blog. And as I love to be a bit of a jack of all trades (master of some, not to sound boastful!) my blog really reflects that delightful smorgasbord that is my life. You can expect to see lots and lots of pretty photography, however! My skills as a photographer have grown significantly since I began blogging, and documenting the world around me and the many projects I keep busy with is one of my favourite thing to do and to share. Though I only have an entry level DSLR, I have invested in lenses and the time and effort to learn how to achieve the kind of photos that I admire. And since the vast majority of my posts feature my photos, I suppose you could say Predictions for the Past is a photography blog documenting a variety of subject matter!
4. What is your favorite thing to blog about?
My favourite thing to blog about is definitely outfit posts! I have a messy day job that tends to see me dressed in an apron caked in glue and paint, so I relish the chance to get dressed up in something fun and look nice for the camera. Plus, my boyfriend tends to take my outfit photos, and he is such a champ about posing for me, too, and we generally have a lot of fun taking photos together. He's becoming quite the photographer, and it is so fun to watch him develop a critical eye! Also he tells me how cute I am, and hey who doesn't like to hear that?!

As a set and costume designer for the theatre, I'm very adept at gathering inspiration from many places, but my favourite is always looking to the past. As a curvier girl I am drawn to the flattering silhouettes of the 1950's and 1960's, but like to balance out that overt femininity with something a little edgier. I was one of those goth kids in high school, and while I appreciate a much (much) broader colour palette these days, the love of black, metal chain, spikes and lace haven't totally left my mind yet. I see my personal style as an ever evolving beast, with each individual outfit I wear as a part of my personality being showcased for a day. A big part of my job as a costume designer is knowing how clothes can affect our moods and speak volumes about us, and I try to dress being mindful of how what I wear looks to others, and most importantly how it will make me feel. All the world's a stage, so play dress up.
